On March 2, Sophia University invited UNDP Deputy Assistant Administrator and Deputy Director. Ms. Gülden Türköz-Cosslett for the special lecture “Challenge to achieve SDGs” held at International Conference hall at Yotsuya campus. (Organized by Sophia University and UNDP Representation Office In Tokyo) The lecture was given in the style of roundtable upon the request of Ms. Gülden to actively exchange the opinions with Japanese students.

At first she explained overview of SDGs and the issue was raised in order for achieving these goals. She pointed out the fact complex issues exist between the nations however it requires worldwide cooperation. In relation setting of 169 indicators was mentioned.

Following her speech active discussion took place by all, Sophia’s students, visiting high school and other university students as well as faculty members. Opinions were presented as such: “SDGs time period 15 years may be too long.” “How young people could get involved?” ”What is the role of UNDP?” In the response “15 years may still be too short.” Ms. Gülden expressed, the reason being numerous tasks to overcome in the limited time period. At last she sent the encouraging message to all students “Actions by the young generation as you are mostly needed for achieving SDGs”
