【Course description】

In this course, we address a series of questions with the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) as a common global goal, including the following

-How have concepts and values of “nature” changed or not in the history of Japan?

-How have the interactions between people and the environment been determined?

-What policies have been adopted around pollution under the pressure of modernization, and finally

-What lessons can be learned from the SDGs from Japanese environmental history?

This course’s methods are environmental history, environmental policy history, and political ecology (economics).
