First held in 2012, the event will take place for the 8th time with the various events and symposiums under the concept, “To consider our world and the future through the U.N activities”.
This year as a start, a film screening of “Born in Syria” a film regarding Syrian refugees will take place on 18th following the talk of Yukio Takasu, the U.N Under Secretary General for Management on 23rd. Also to become more familiar with SDGs: the UN sustainable development goals aimed to be achieved by 2030, an award ceremony for “Student Photo Contest Award”, a special symposium featuring “Expectations of Japanese Companies: Embedding Respect for Human Rights in Mega Sporting Events” will be held and on the last day together with researchers and experts, the progress and the future tasks of SDGs will be discussed. Also during the UN Weeks there will be the display available to describe SDGs in details at the entrance hall of No.2 BLDG. We hope many of you will be able to attend.

【１】UNHCR Refugee Film Festival-School Partners Film Screening

This event is to give our thoughts to refugee problems through the film. “Born in Syria” a documentary film featuring courageous 7 refugee children from Syria will be screened this year.

【2】 UN Day award ceremony for SDGs Student Photo Contest

This year more than 1000 entries were made from over 73 countries for the student photo contest while the winners’ photos from last year were exhibited in UN Headquarters in New York. Foreign Minister Award will be awarded for this year’s winner and the guest judges will give critiques to individual photos expressing their views for SDGs.

【3】Symposium Expectations for Japanese Companies:　Embedding Respect for Human Rights in Mega Sports Events”

Tokyo 2020 Games will be noted as the milestone for the progress of the SDGs. This symposium will discuss expectations and progress underway by Japanese companies ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Games especially in the area of human right issues.
